Yad v’Ezer delivers hot, kosher meals to families in temporary need.

Yad v’Ezer

What happens when a mother gives birth, or is in aveilus, G-d forbid, and unable to take care of her family? What happens when a father is hospitalized and awaiting treatment, and the mother is torn between supporting her spouse and caring for the household... What happens when there’s a crisis in the household that demands the attention of one or both parents?

It’s no surprise that in times of trouble, even the most orderly household can fall into total disarray. Simple tasks like grocery shopping, laundry or getting the kids off to school can turn into an insurmountable challenge, and expectations of a hot nourishing meal for the family can no longer be met.

When an emergency arises who has the time and energy to provide the family with the meals they need?!

The answer is Yad v’Ezer!

Every day, Yad v’Ezer delivers dozens of tasty and wholesome meals, straight from the oven to families in distress.

When families have trouble coping, Yad v’Ezer ensures that they will not lack a hot, nutritious supper to soothe their appetites and give them strength. Our focus is on providing the body with nourishment so that the heart and mind can meet their challenges.

Yad v’Ezer is truly a helping hand!

Hot meals for families in need

Yad v'Ezer is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization that delivers tasty, hot, nourishing meals to local families in temporary need.

The organization was founded in 2003 by SUNY Downstate Medical Center Chaplain, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Holzman, when he responded to the needs of a local mother who had just given birth and was unable to prepare meals for her husband and children.

Over the next several years, Yad v’Ezer grew steadily into an organization serving hundreds of families. Today, Yad v’Ezer maintains a modern kitchen and cooking staff to meet steadily growing demand. As of 2019, the organization’s budget was well over $240,000.

Yad v’Ezer is very proud of having served more than 1,500 families since its founding–that amounts to over 100,000 hot meals!

Perhaps the best thing about Yad v’Ezer: this kindness is made possible by local families for local families. When we care for the health and well-being of our neighbors, we show them that their community cares about their needs through their difficult times. In this way, we promote a more caring and unified community!

Yad v’Ezer cooks and delivers hot, glatt kosher meals to families in Crown Heights who, for a variety of possible reasons, cannot prepare family meals for themselves.

These problems most often arise on account of:

•  Aveilus (G-d forbid)
•  Childbirth
•  Illness
•  Loss of housing
•  Medical procedures
•  Being medically homebound

However, there is no limit to the nature of problems that could prevent a household from preparing their own meals.    In addition to food preparation, Yad v’Ezer delivers meals directly to homes in Crown Heights.

For families who live outside of our delivery area, arrangements can be made to pick up meals by contacting our office.

If you or one of your neighbors is unable to prepare their own meals for any reason, please contact us for assistance.

*Yad v’Ezer does not provide assistance for financial distress.
